This New Day in America

The sun refracting through the dew
Makes everything appear to be on fire,
From the tips of the tree branches
To the tiniest blades of grass,
From the tops of the houses,
To the pavement under my feet,
On this new day in America.

The flags of hope and change fly high,
Welcome silhouettes in the sky,
On this new day in America.

The dreams that we have dreamed all our lives,
Rise anew under skies so blue,
On this new day in America.

The chance to set so much right,
The open path to address every plight,
On this new day in America.

The challenges we face loom large,
But our duty is our charge,
On this new day in America.

We will not be deceived, as we challenge what we believed,
We will seek out right, and not shrink from the good fight,
On this new day in America.

From shore to shore, we take up the banners our fathers bore,
We will hunger for justice even more,
On this new day in America.

Though our odds be rather thin,
With dedication, we will win,
On this new day in America.

No longer, much for the few,
But freedom for me and freedom for you,
On this new day in America.

Let our old chant, Yes We Can, ring across the land anew,
As it changes to Yes We Did, and rings ever true,
On this new day in America.
